Few bands did more to drag thrash metal back into the spotlight than Havok. The Denver crew, anchored since the beginning by vocalist and guitarist David Sanchez, helped define what critics started calling the New Wave of Thrash Metal, landing alongside Municipal Waste, Warbringer and Evile as a driving force of that scene. Their 2011 record Time Is Up was a turning point, earning strong reviews and pulling them onto major tours with Anthrax, Sepultura and Death Angel among others. Over five studio albums from Burn in 2009 through to V in 2020, Havok have kept the '80s thrash spirit alive while pulling in threads of death metal, hardcore punk and progressive metal. Unnatural Selection from 2013 cracked the Billboard Top 200 in its first week and took them to Rock Al Parque in Bogota in front of around 45,000 people. They are now signed to Century Media Records and, with a lineup settled around Sanchez, drummer Pete Webber and bassist Nick Schendzielos, they have been working on new material.
