Few bands blur the line between noise rock and electronic music quite like HEALTH. The Los Angeles trio built their early reputation through a Crystal Castles remix of their track "Crimewave" and a self titled debut recorded at The Smell, a legendary noise and experimental venue in LA. Spin called it a "mind numbing sonic overload", and that was very much the point. Opening for Nine Inch Nails helped too, even if they had to borrow Trent Reznor's LED rig to win the crowd over. Since then, HEALTH have kept pushing their sound toward darker, more electronic territory, a shift they partly credit to composing the Max Payne 3 soundtrack for Rockstar Games. That work led to contributions for Grand Theft Auto V, Cyberpunk 2077, and the indie shooter Ultrakill. Their album Death Magic in 2015 leaned into melody and electronics, and they have kept releasing records since, with Rat Wars arriving in 2023 and Conflict DLC in 2025. Along the way they covered New Order's "Blue Monday" for the film Atomic Blonde, which tells you a lot about where their head is at.
