About
Henri Demarquette plays a 1725 Stradivarius cello on loan from LVMH, and that detail alone tells you something about the level at which this French cellist operates. He caught his big break when Yehudi Menuhin spotted him and invited him to perform Dvorák's Concerto in Prague and Paris, and his career went international from there, taking in the London Philharmonic, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony and plenty more. His range is genuinely wide: alongside the standard repertoire he has premiered works by Olivier Greif, Éric Tanguy and Pascal Zavaro, released an album of Michel Legrand's cello concerto on Sony, and even tours in duo with accordionist Richard Galliano. His project Vocello, mixing Renaissance polyphony with contemporary music for cello and choir, is one of his more unusual ventures and landed him a residency at the Collège des Bernardins.
