Het Collectief is a Brussels ensemble with a sharp focus on the repertoire of the Second Viennese School, the early twentieth century movement in which composers like Schoenberg and Berg dismantled the familiar logic of tonal music and forged something rawer and more expressionistic in its place. Their programme centres on key works from that tradition, with Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire sitting at the heart of what they do. That piece, a song cycle for voice and chamber ensemble that became one of the defining landmarks of musical modernism, is apparently something of a signature work for the group, performed as a live experience rather than a museum piece.
