About
Queer heartache sits at the core of what Hit Like a Girl does, and the project wears that identity with purpose. Founded by songwriter Nicolle Maroulis (they/them) in 2017, the band pulls from emo, pop, indie and hardcore to make music that feels both intimate and immediately catchy. Comparisons to Tigers Jaw, Future Teens and Indigo De Souza give a rough map of the sound: tuneful, emotionally direct, and full of yearning. The live lineup includes Mol White on synth and backing vocals and Mike Davis on drums, with rotating guitarists rounding things out. Maroulis is nothing short of prolific, having put out four full lengths including You Make Sense, What Makes Love Last and Heart Racer, plus the EP Becoming. Beyond the music, Maroulis founded No More Dysphoria in 2016, a registered non profit focused on helping transgender people cover costs related to their transition. The band has shared stages with Mom Jeans, Origami Angel, Pool Kids and Kississippi, and has toured alongside John Allison Weiss and The Iron Roses.
