About

Also known as: Dan & The Electro's, Hoover, Hooverphonics, Milk Fisk

Hooverphonic built their name on a sound that refuses to sit still. The Belgian band from Sint Niklaas started out in trip hop territory in 1995, but by the time they hit their stride they were blending strings, electronica, dream pop, and even Broadway flavored arrangements into something entirely their own. Their earliest international breakthrough came when "2Wicky" landed on the soundtrack to Bernardo Bertolucci's film Stealing Beauty, a track built around a riff sampled from Isaac Hayes' version of "Walk On By". The core of the band has always been bassist Alex Callier and guitarist Raymond Geerts, with a rotating cast of lead vocalists shaping each era. Geike Arnaert, who first joined at eighteen for Blue Wonder Power Milk, became the voice most associated with the group. The concept album Jackie Cane went platinum in Belgium, their performance at the Euro 2000 opening ceremony reached over a billion viewers, and they became the first Belgian act to headline Rock Werchter. They represented Belgium at Eurovision 2021 with "The Wrong Place".
