Few songs arrive quite like 'Take Me to Church' did in 2013: a blues soaked, gospel tinged anthem that shot to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and went certified multi platinum in several countries, all off a music video filmed on a shoestring budget in black and white. That track announced Andrew Hozier Byrne, the Irish singer who records simply as Hozier, as someone with a genuinely rare gift for marrying raw musical feeling to sharp, politically charged lyrics rooted in religious imagery and social justice themes. His debut album pulled from folk, R&B and blues and eventually went six times platinum in Ireland. His second album, Wasteland, Baby!, opened at the top of the Billboard 200 in 2019, and his third record, Unreal Unearth, debuted at number one on both the Irish and UK charts in 2023. Then came 'Too Sweet' from the EP Unheard in 2024, his first number one in Ireland, the US and the UK, and the song that cemented his status as one of the more quietly extraordinary songwriters working in rock and soul right now.
