Imarhan translates as 'the people I care about', which tells you something about the warmth running through this Tuareg quintet from Tamanrasset, Algeria. Formed in 2006, they play desert rock rooted in the sounds of their homeland, and their first three albums came out on German label City Slang. Their self titled debut landed in 2016, produced by Eyadou Ag Leche, bassist of Tinariwen and cousin of Imarhan's vocalist Sadam. Temet followed in 2018, and when the pandemic hit, the band used the downtime to build their own studio back home, recording Aboogi there and releasing it in 2022. The band is rounded out by bassist Tahar Khaldi, guitarists Hicham Bouhasse and Abdelkader Ourzig, and percussionist Haiballah Akhamouk, a tight unit that has steadily carved out its own space in the Tuareg music scene.
