About
International Burlesque Circus has been running since 2011 as the Netherlands' own take on a full blown burlesque party fused with circus spectacle. The concept blends high quality burlesque and circus performances with retro and modern music, creating something that sits somewhere between a 1950s sideshow revival and a contemporary cabaret night. Themes shift from old school bump and grind to slick modern burlesque, so no two editions feel quite the same. Beyond the stage acts, the experience comes loaded with extras: candy girls working the room, a best dressed contest, a fortune teller, an absinthe bar, a burlesque photobooth, a charity tombola and merchandise. The whole thing is pitched as a party rather than a seated theatre show, with a DJ keeping the energy up between performances. The dress code is taken seriously and everyone who makes the effort is treated as a VIP.
