ITZY burst onto the K pop scene in early 2019 with a debut that shattered records. Their first single "Dalla Dalla" racked up over 17 million views in a single day, setting a new benchmark for K pop debut music videos, and the group won their first music show trophy just eight days after releasing it. By the end of that year they had swept every major Rookie of the Year award in South Korea, becoming the first K pop girl group to pull off what the industry calls a Rookie Grand Slam. The five member group, made up of Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna, has built a reputation around themes of self confidence and independence, wrapped in a sound that shifts comfortably between EDM influenced pop and harder edged production. Their 2022 EP Checkmate was a turning point commercially, crossing a million copies sold and cracking the top ten of the US Billboard 200. They have kept up a relentless pace since then, releasing a string of million selling projects and making their mark in Japan with studio album Ringo and most recently their tenth EP Girls Will Be Girls and eleventh EP Tunnel Vision.
