About
New York born conductor James Gaffigan has built a career that spans some of Europe's most respected orchestras. He served as chief conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra for over a decade, recording music by Dvořák and Wolfgang Rihm for harmonia mundi along the way. He also held the role of principal guest conductor with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest and made history at the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne as its first ever principal guest conductor. More recently he took on the music director post at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia and stepped into the same role at the Komische Oper Berlin from the 2023 to 2024 season. On the opera side, his long relationship with Houston Grand Opera led to his appointment as that company's next music director, starting with the 2027 to 2028 season.
