About
Jeanine de Bique is a soprano from San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago, whose voice finds a natural home in baroque opera and the intricate emotional world of Handel. She performs alongside countertenor Maarten Engeltjes in a programme built around Handel's love duets, with the duet Io t'abbraccio from Rodelinda at its centre. That piece, a conversation between two voices that lock together and resist letting go, is a good illustration of what draws her to this repertoire: music that depends entirely on the give and take between performers in the moment.
