About
Jef Neve has built a reputation as one of Belgium's most versatile pianists, moving fluidly between jazz, classical composition, and film music. His 2008 trio album Soul in a Picture caught international attention, with The Guardian noting his "very personal language" that draws on classical music while keeping the energy of jazz and rock. He wrote the soundtrack for Felix Van Groeningen's Dagen Zonder Lief, contributed to Ludovic Bource's Oscar winning score for The Artist, and appeared on José James' For All We Know. Neve's trio work with bassist Piet Verbist and drummer Teun Verbruggen has taken him across Europe, Australia, Canada and Japan. Echoes of Brad Mehldau and Keith Jarrett show up in his compositions, though he has never been shy about crossing into hiphop or contemporary classical territory. His album Mysterium, released in 2020, marked a new chapter, and he spent much of that year performing live streamed concerts, eventually clocking around 150 sessions for online audiences.
