About
Also known as: Joanna Jenneke Josepha Klarenbeek
Jenny Arean, born Joanna Jenneke Josepha Klarenbeek, has been one of the Netherlands' most versatile performers for decades, moving fluidly between cabaret, musical theatre, and acting. She scored a genuine hit in 1977 with the duet "Vluchten kan niet meer" alongside Frans Halsema, taken from the musical "En nu naar bed" by Annie M.G. Schmidt. She also played the lead in the 1972 TV adaptation of "Het meisje met de blauwe hoed" and appeared in popular NCRV television musicals in the early 1960s. From the mid 1980s onward she built a strong solo cabaret career, and in 2002 she teamed up with Willeke Alberti for a theatre show performing under their real surnames, Klarenbeek and Verbrugge. She also shared the stage with Robert Long, Dimitri Frenkel Frank and Jérôme Reehuis in the 1975 cabaret programme "Scherts, satire, songs en ander snoepgoed". On 5 May 2023 she performed again at the Bevrijdingsconcert in Amsterdam, confirming she is still very much a presence on the Dutch stage.
