About
Jungle by Night are an Amsterdam outfit who blend funk, jazz, dub and rock into a mostly instrumental sound with a strong afrobeat backbone. That backbone traces back to a formative encounter with the Budos Band, and the group quickly built a reputation on the festival circuit, earning praise from Seun Kuti and sharing stages with acts like The Roots, Mulatu Astatke and the Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou. Their catalogue runs from early afrobeat workouts through to more genre spanning territory, taking in collaborations with LA producer Gaslamp Killer and a jubilant tribute to Nederpop featuring Jan Akkerman and Osdorp Posse. Over the years Jungle by Night have put out a steady string of albums, each one pushing the sound somewhere new. The Hunt, The Traveller and Livingstone all drew big festival bookings, including Pinkpop and Glastonbury. Their 2021 album Algorhythm tackled the way algorithms quietly shape what we hear, see and think, a conceptual swing that felt right at home in their dense, layered instrumental world. More recently they have been active as a seven piece outfit, keeping the groove very much alive.
