About
Also known as: Kaizers Orkester
Kaizers Orchestra built their reputation on a sound that mixes high energy rock with gypsy rhythms and Eastern European oompah, all sung in the Jæren dialect of Norwegian. The band stood out for their wild live shows, where gas masks, oil barrels and crowbars were standard issue on stage. They became the first Norwegian band to break through internationally while singing entirely in their native language, finding audiences not just in Norway but also in Denmark and the Netherlands. Their debut album Ompa Til Du Dør won a Spellemannpris, the Norwegian Grammy equivalent, for best rock album and holds the record as the best selling Norwegian language debut in the country's history. Founded in Bryne by vocalist Janove Ottesen and guitarist Geir Zahl, the band ran through a striking run of albums before playing what seemed like a final concert in 2013. The comeback came in 2023, with new music and a new tour, proving the Orchestra was far from done.
