About
KELS blends jazz, pop and soul into what she calls a "dirty blues" sound, built around a raw vocal style and lyrics that get personal. Artists like Lauryn Hill, Sarah Vaughan and Amy Winehouse are clear touchstones in her work. Based in Atlanta, she has built her following entirely on her own terms, without a label or management behind her. That independence shows in her track record. She completed a fully crowd funded US tour of 52 shows, then followed it with a second self run run through the northeastern United States. She has also opened the Atlanta Jazz Festival for André 3000, and counts Timbaland and Big Boi among the artists who have backed her. Her EP Dirty Blues Princess brings that whole sound together.
