RAYE holds the all time record for the most Brit Awards won in a single year, walking away with six trophies in 2024 including Songwriter of the Year, making her the first woman ever to receive that particular award. Her music pulls from jazz, soul, R&B, pop and dance, and her lyrics have always leaned into raw personal honesty rather than polish for its own sake. She spent years signed to Polydor Records, where collaborations like Jax Jones's "You Don't Know Me" put her in the UK top three, but the label kept refusing to release her debut album. She eventually walked. Going independent paid off in a big way. My 21st Century Blues arrived in 2023 and was met with serious critical praise, with "Escapism" becoming her first UK number one and cracking the Billboard Global 200. Her second album, This Music May Contain Hope, went even further, topping the UK Albums Chart and delivering a second number one single with "Where Is My Husband!". Behind the scenes she has writing credits on tracks by Beyoncé, Charli XCX, Ellie Goulding and Little Mix, which tells you a lot about how seriously the industry takes her craft.
