About

Also known as: Kenneth Larkin, Lark

Kenny Larkin is one of Detroit techno's most quietly influential figures, described by AllMusic as "massively influential" on American, British, and German techno. Coming up in the second wave of Detroit producers, he released his early singles "We Shall Overcome" and "Integration" on Plus 8, the label run by Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva, before moving through Warp, R&S, and Peacefrog. His sound ranges from the more experimental and IDM leaning territory of his 1994 Warp album Azimuth to the tougher, groovier feel of releases under his Dark Comedy alias. That alias got a serious workout on Funkfaker: Music Saves My Soul, which blends electronics with jazz, blues, and soul in ways that sit well outside standard techno territory. His records have always found a bigger audience in continental Europe than at home in the US.
