Kiki Schippers has a reputation for writing sharp, politically charged songs at remarkable speed, and that skill sits at the heart of everything she does. The Dutch cabaret artist from Nijmegen moves fluidly between intimate kleinkunst songs and spoken cabaret in her theatre shows, and she has racked up an impressive six nominations for the Annie M.G. Schmidt Prize, winning it in 2016 for her song Er spoelen mensen aan. Beyond the stage, Schippers writes columns for the Algemeen Dagblad and is a regular voice on the BNNVARA radio programme Spijkers met Koppen on NPO Radio 2. She also writes lyrics for other artists, and since 2023 she has been part of Vrouwejaars, a theatre and television programme where female makers look back on the year gone by. Her discography spans albums, EPs and a steady stream of singles that reflect the same wit and social awareness her live audiences have come to expect.
