About
Maarten Heijmans is a Dutch actor who carved out a genuinely musical corner of his career by diving deep into the songs of Ramses Shaffy. After playing the legendary Dutch singer in the AVRO miniseries Ramses, a role that earned him both a Golden Calf and an International Emmy Award, Heijmans kept performing those songs in theater shows. In November 2019 he released the album Ramses, featuring his own arrangements of Shaffy's work. He brings the same commitment to musical theater, most recently taking on the role of Hermes in the Dutch production of Hadestown at the Koninklijk Theater Carré in 2025. His musical output is rooted in his theatrical instincts, which makes it feel more like inhabiting a world than covering a catalog.
