About
Named after the German painter Paul Klee and with a nod to the four leaf clover for good luck, this Cologne trio turned a difficult comeback into a proper pop career. Suzie Kerstgens, Sten Servaes and Tom Deininger had already recorded together under the name Ralley in the late nineties before a serious road accident put everything on hold. When they regrouped in 2002, they shifted from guitar pop to electropop and built a sound that laut.de memorably described as synthesizers, forceful drums and British style electric guitars, all lifted by Kerstgens' softly breathing, velvety voice. Over the years Klee kept evolving, pulling in chanson touches, bossa nova textures and even schlager on their covers album Hello Again. Four of their records have landed in the German top 30, with the fifth album Aus lauter Liebe peaking at number six. Live, they scale up to a full band and reportedly play as many as 150 shows a year, having taken the music as far as Turkey, Russia and China.
