About

Kneecap are a Belfast trio who rap in a mix of Irish and English, and the combination is as provocative as it sounds. Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí built their name around working class Belfast youth culture, Irish republicanism, and Irish language rights, and they have never been shy about any of it. Their debut single "C.E.A.R.T.A." came out of a real incident where Móglaí Bap spray painted the Irish word for "rights" on a bus stop the night before a language rights march. Their 2018 mixtape 3CAG, a slang term for MDMA, was described as raucous hip hop fusing both languages with a wicked sense of humour. The group has been at the centre of plenty of controversy, from a DUP politician condemning their concerts to a blocked UK government grant they eventually won back through the courts. In 2024 they starred in a biographical film also called Kneecap, directed by Rich Peppiatt and featuring Michael Fassbender, alongside their debut studio album Fine Art. Their second studio album Fenian followed in 2026.
