About
Winning the Prague Spring International Conducting Competition in 2007 put Krzysztof Urbański on the map early, and he has barely slowed down since. The Polish conductor built his reputation across two continents, spending a decade as music director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and simultaneously leading the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra as chief conductor. His mentor Antoni Wit, who taught him at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, reportedly singled him out as the strongest student of his entire cohort there. Urbański has held principal guest conductor roles with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana. In 2023 the Bern Symphony Orchestra named him their next chief conductor, and in 2024 the Warsaw National Philharmonic appointed him artistic director, bringing his career full circle back to Poland.
