La Quinta Estación started out as a six piece band from Madrid before relocating to Mexico in 2001, and that move turned out to be the making of them. Signing with Ariola and landing a track on the hugely popular Televisa telenovela Clase 406 gave their debut album Primera toma an instant audience. From there they built a serious following across Latin America, racking up triple platinum in Mexico and a Latin Grammy win for Best Pop Album by a Duo or Group with El Mundo Se Equivoca in 2007, then a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album with Sin Frenos in 2010. The core of the band is singer and harmonica player Natalia Jiménez and guitarist Ángel Reyero, a duo whose sound sits comfortably in pop rock and Latin ballad territory. Flores de Alquitar, their second album, is probably their most celebrated record, built around singles like the mariachi tinged El Sol No Regresa and the moody, black and white Algo Más. They played the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City in 2007, which is about as big as it gets for a Latin act, and while both members have explored solo work at times, the band has never fully closed the door.
