About
La Tempête is a French ensemble led by visionary director Simon Pierre Bestion, known for performances that sit somewhere between concert and ritual. Their show Obsession, built around minimalist works by Pärt, Glass, and Alain, surrounds the audience with columns of light, glowing musicians, and relentless forward driving sound designed to pull you completely under. The group has been asking one persistent question for over a decade: can music create a space where you truly surrender to it? Their staging suggests the answer is yes, combining early music, new music, and movement into something hard to categorise. They made a strong impression at Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht in 2023 with an imaginary funeral for Emperor Charles V, and have returned to the festival every year since. Whether the programme is ancient or contemporary, La Tempête consistently leaves audiences both stunned and emotionally spent.
