About
Also known as: Zainab Donli, Zainab Elizabeth Donli
Lady Donli is one of the names most closely tied to Nigeria's alté scene, a loose fusion world where Afrobeats, R&B, soul, hip hop and jazz all get to mingle. Her own sound leans into alternative R&B, and she cites Brenda Fassie, Angelique Kidjo, Asa and Erykah Badu among the voices that shaped her. She started out with the 12 track mixtape Love or War in 2014, then built her catalogue through a run of EPs including Wallflower, Letters to Her and Wild. Her debut album Enjoy Your Life landed in 2019, followed by Pan African Rockstar in 2023. Along the way she has teamed up with a long list of names, from Mr Eazi and Davido to M.I Abaga, Adekunle Gold, Odunsi the Engine and Tay Iwar, which says a lot about how well connected she is in Nigeria's new wave.
