About
Lieverds make Dutch language groove music recorded straight to tape, drawing on a fascination with the session recordings of the 1960s and 70s. The duo describes their approach as moment driven songwriting, meaning they embrace the unexpected and treat their own songs a bit like session players would: loose, instinctive, open to wherever the take goes. Their debut EP, also called Lieverds, collected the results of that process. Sonically, the comparison that gets thrown around is Marvin Gaye cycling through the Dutch countryside, which actually captures something real about the warmth and earthiness of their sound. Lyrically they work in fragments drawn from two ordinary lives, keeping things grounded rather than grand.
