Lonestar scored one of country music's biggest crossover moments when "Amazed" hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1999, the first country song to pull that off since "Islands in the Stream" back in 1983. The Nashville band built their reputation on more than two decades of charting singles, racking up nine number ones including "No News", "I'm Already There", and "My Front Porch Looking In". Their early sound leaned into honky tonk and neotraditionalist country, but they gradually shifted toward a smoother country pop territory across their later albums. The band's lineup has shifted a fair bit over the years. Bass player John Rich left in 1998 and went on to form Big & Rich with Big Kenny. Long time lead singer Richie McDonald called it quits in 2007, returned in 2011, then stepped away again in 2021 to join the Frontmen. Drew Womack, formerly of Sons of the Desert, stepped in to fill the role. Through all the changes, core members Michael Britt, Dean Sams, and Keech Rainwater have kept the band going.
