About
Also known as: Luther Nicholson
Signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records since 2015, Charlotte rapper Lute has built a reputation as one of the label's most thoughtful voices in southern hip hop. His debut mixtape West1996 caught the ear of legendary producer Pete Rock, who shouted it out on Twitter back in 2012, and that early buzz eventually led to a spot on Dreamville's Revenge of the Dreamers II compilation. His debut album West1996 pt. 2 arrived in 2017 after a few delays, backed by singles like "Juggin'" and "Premonition", and he hit the road that year on J. Cole's 4 Your Eyez Only World Tour alongside JID and EarthGang. His second album Gold Mouf, released in 2021, brought together a stacked guest list including Ari Lennox, Saba, Little Brother, and Westside Boogie, showing just how wide his creative circle has grown.
