Finnish rocker Marco Hietala spent years as the bassist and vocalist of symphonic metal band Nightwish before stepping out on his own. His solo work stretches across a wide sonic range, from vintage hard rock with a flair reminiscent of Alice Cooper to prog rock, folk metal and symphonic metal. His debut solo album Pyre Of The Black Heart was followed by Roses From The Deep, a second record that shows the same eclecticism and a voice that can carry all of it. He has also shared the stage with fellow Nightwish alumna Tarja Turunen, making clear that his world extends well beyond any single project.
