About
Also known as: M Picotto, Maruo Picotto, Maura Picotto, Mauro Picott, Mauro Picotta, Mauro Picotti, Picotto
Mauro Picotto built his reputation as the man behind some of the most recognisable trance and techno records to come out of Italy. Before going solo, he spent years as a key producer and partner at Media Records, co writing Eurodance hits for acts like Cappella and the 49ers alongside label boss Gianfranco Bortolotti. His own breakthrough came with a reptilian trilogy of club anthems: "Lizard (Gonna Get You)", "Iguana", and "Komodo (Save a Soul)", the last of which peaked at number 13 in the UK and earned him a live DJ slot on Top of the Pops, the first DJ to mix live on the show. After leaving Media Records in 2002, Picotto shifted hard toward techno and set up his own label, Bakerloo. He launched his Meganite club night, which became a long running fixture at Privilege in Ibiza, and kept releasing records across a wide range of electronic styles, from electrohouse to minimal techno. His 2023 album From the 80's Til Now pulls together sounds from across his whole career, collaborating with Maurizio Molella on several tracks.
