If you stumbled across a teenager from County Donegal casually playing Blind Blake and Mississippi John Hurt with the ease of someone who'd lived through the Delta, you'd understand why the internet lost its mind over Muireann Bradley. She plays and sings country blues and ragtime guitar in the fingerpicking style of the original 1920s, 30s and 40s artists, and does it with a conviction that drew guitarist Stefan Grossman to call her "a wonderful player". Her debut album I Kept These Old Blues, recorded mostly in one take per track with no overdubs or effects in a small Ballybofey studio, went top ten on the UK Albums Download Chart after her BBC Jools Holland Hootenanny appearance earned her a standing ovation. Decca Records signed her in December 2024 and reissued the album on vinyl in February 2025, adding Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy's "When the Levee Breaks" as a bonus track. Bradley has since taken the music to festivals across Europe, Australia, America and beyond, racking up over two million online views along the way. In 2025 she also put out "These Days", continuing to build a catalogue that keeps some genuinely extraordinary old music very much alive.
