NAPA are a five piece indie band from Madeira who started out recording songs in English in a band member's grandmother's basement, going by the name Men on the Couch. A name change, a language switch, and a real creative leap later, they were writing in Portuguese and putting out their second album, Logo se vê, in 2023. The new name comes from the fabric used to cover couches, suggested by their producer while he was sitting on one. Their 2024 national tour wrapped up with two sold out nights at the Maria Matos Theatre, captured in the concert film O Mundo Continua a Girar. Then came Eurovision. Their song Deslocado won Portugal's Festival da Canção in March 2025 and quickly struck a nerve on TikTok, where displaced and migrant young people shared their own stories to the track. The band finished 21st at the grand final, but the song kept spreading, eventually reaching Spotify's Global Viral charts. Nominations at the 2025 Portuguese Golden Globes for Best Song and Newcomer of the Year followed, and by December they were named Figures of the Year by SIC Notícias.
