About
Nathanaël Gouin is a French classical pianist with a knack for pairing unexpected repertoire choices with real interpretive depth. He studied at some of the most demanding conservatoires in Europe and the US, including the Conservatoire de Paris and the Juilliard School, and refined his playing alongside pianists like Maria João Pires and Louis Lortie. His discography ranges from a Ravel violin and piano sonatas recording with Guillaume Chilemme to a Franz Liszt album on Mirare and a tribute to Nadia Boulanger alongside cellist Astrig Siranossian on Alpha. Gouin also picked up first prize at the Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria back in 2009, the same year he won both the Swedish Duet Competition and the Lyon Chamber Music Competition. His Caprices album pulls together pieces by Bach, Brahms, Rachmaninov, Alkan, Fauré, Hahn and Ohana, showing a range that goes well beyond the standard recital playlist. He is equally at home in chamber music as in solo work, and that versatility is probably what makes his recordings feel genuinely personal.
