About
Mao Fujita announced himself to the wider classical world with a Silver Medal at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, one of the most prestigious piano competitions on the planet. Before that, he had already racked up wins at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland and the Rosario Marciano International Piano Competition in Vienna, making clear he was no ordinary competition circuit climber. Fujita records for Sony Classical and Naxos, and his catalogue shows real range: from a complete Mozart piano sonatas set on Sony Classical to Chopin impromptus and scherzos, and earlier releases exploring Beethoven and Prokofiev. The Tokyo native brings a clean, focused touch to the classical piano repertoire, and his Mozart recordings in particular have drawn serious attention to what he can do with the instrument.
