When Bruce Liu walked off the stage at the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, he had just received a standing ovation that said everything. The Canadian pianist, born in Paris and raised in Montreal, was the only competitor the jury unanimously advanced through every round, and he took first prize. His live album from the competition landed on Gramophone's best classical albums of 2021 list, with the magazine calling it one of the most distinguished Chopin recitals of recent years. That recognition led to an exclusive deal with Deutsche Grammophon, signed on World Piano Day 2022. Since then, Liu has been everywhere: recitals at the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, concerto dates with orchestras from Tokyo to São Paulo, and a London debut stepping in to perform Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmonia Orchestra. His YouTube channel shows him warming up with Albéniz, dissecting a Rachmaninoff moment he loves, and rehearsing Mozart with his own teacher, Đặng Thái Sơn.
