Nick Hakim makes the kind of neo soul that feels like it's melting at the edges, blurring into psychedelia without losing its emotional core. His 2017 debut album Green Twins drew serious attention, earning praise from Pitchfork and The Guardian and landing on NPR's list of the ten best R&B albums of that year. Vice summed it up well, calling it a "soulful, psychedelic experience". A track from that record, "Needy Bees", even found its way into HBO's Insecure. Hakim is as much a collaborator as a solo artist. He contributed original music to HBO's Random Acts of Flyness, worked with Erykah Badu on her livestream series, and played piano and sang on Adrianne Lenker's 2024 album Bright Future. His third album Cometa came out in 2022, and around that time he also contributed extensively to Lil Yachty's genre bending Let's Start Here, which shows just how far his reach goes across the musical landscape.
