Ntjam Rosie blends jazz, soul and pop with West and Central African influences in a way that feels genuinely her own. Born in Cameroon and based in Rotterdam, she released her debut Atouba in 2008 under the name Ntjamrosie, and it was her second album Elle (2010) that really put her on the map, earning an Edison Jazzism Audience Award nomination and drawing comparisons to touchstones like Stevie Wonder, Patrice Rushen and Miriam Makeba. Guitar took a more prominent role on her third album At the Back of Beyond (2013), and her fifth, Breaking Cycles (2017), won Best Soul Album of the Year from Echoes magazine. She has opened for Erykah Badu, Macy Gray and José James, and performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Beyond recording, she has worked extensively in theatre, including the touring production Dear Winnie, a tribute to Winnie Madikizela Mandela performed by nine Black women. Her ninth studio album, the self titled Ntjam Rosie, came out in April 2026 through o tone music, written largely on guitar and sung in both English and her mother tongue Bulu.
