About
Sabrina Starke makes the kind of soul, folk and jazz that earns real genre labels, not just flattering comparisons. The Rotterdam based singer and songwriter broke through with her 2008 debut Yellow Brick Road, produced in Los Angeles and picked up by the legendary Blue Note label, which re released it after the single "Do for Love" went viral on YouTube and became a TV theme tune in France. The album went gold in the Netherlands and won her the Edison Award for Best Newcomer. Since then she has kept a steady pace, putting out six more albums including a tribute to Bill Withers on Lean on Me and the introspective Underneath the Surface in 2018. Her seventh album Weather the Storm, released in 2024, draws on a very personal chapter, processing her experience with a breast cancer diagnosis and recovery. She also served on the Dutch jury for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019, proving her reach goes well beyond the studio.
