About
Wouter Hamel is a Dutch jazz pop singer from Den Haag whose style draws frequent comparisons to Jamie Cullum. He won the Dutch Jazz Vocal Competition in 2005, which set off a wave of media attention and landed him a spot at the North Sea Jazz Festival. His 2007 debut album, on which he wrote all twelve songs himself, hit the Dutch Albums Top 100 and earned solid critical notices. The single "Breezy" even crossed over to Japan, reaching number 36 on the Tokio Hot 100. By 2011 he was releasing his third album, Lohengrin, and supporting Caro Emerald on her German tour, a neat sign of just how far his warm, melodic take on jazz pop had taken him.
