About

Pagan Altar sit at a rare crossroads: a NWOBHM band that plays doom metal, putting them in very select company alongside Witchfinder General. Formed in London's Brockley borough in 1978 by Terry Jones and his son Alan, the band spent years circulating a self titled demo that got heavily bootlegged before finally receiving an official release as "Volume 1" on Oracle Records in 1998. Their concerts lean into the occult, pairing heavy, epic music with stage effects that give the whole thing a genuinely unsettling atmosphere. After reforming in 2004 and releasing two well received albums, "Lords of Hypocrisy" and "Mythical and Magical", the band faced a long road finishing their fourth studio record "Never Quite Dead" following vocalist Terry Jones's death in 2015. Alan Jones spent years reworking the material, and the album eventually came out in 2025 with new singer Brendan Radigan, who had already been on the road with the band for some time.
