About

Pavel Kolesnikov is a Russian pianist whose career spans solo recitals, chamber music, and concerto appearances with some of the most respected orchestras around. Born in Novosibirsk, he went on to study with Nikolai Lugansky at the Moscow Conservatory, later moving to London, which he calls a perfect place for himself. He has a contract with Hyperion Records and made his Proms debut performing Tchaikovsky's Second Piano Concerto with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland. He has played Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Louvre, and appeared at festivals from Aldeburgh to La Roque d'Anthéron. Kolesnikov is also a committed chamber musician and regularly performs as a duo with his partner, Kazakh pianist Samson Tsoy. One of the more unexpected threads in his life is a passion for vintage perfume, a collection of around 150 bottles, some from the early twentieth century. He sees music and scent as closely related, both non visual arts that carry powerful emotion and depend on a careful balance between their parts. In 2019 he collaborated with choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker on a project built around Bach's Goldberg Variations.
