About
Personal Trainer is the Amsterdam indie rock collective built around the endlessly restless Willem Smit, who keeps things interesting by rotating a cast of collaborators through the lineup, drawing from bands like Pip Blom, Canshaker Pi, and The Klittens. What started as a solo project has grown into something much bigger and genuinely hard to pin down, with Smit the only constant in a group that shifts shape from tour to tour. They made a real impression at Eurosonic Noorderslag in 2020 and pulled off a 24 hour continuous performance at Paradiso Amsterdam in 2021, which tells you a lot about the band's ambition and stamina. Festival appearances at Down the Rabbit Hole and Best Kept Secret followed. Their debut album Big Love Blanket arrived in 2022, and after signing to Bella Union they released the follow up Still Willing in 2024. A third album, Human Assholes, is already listed in their discography for 2026.
