Pongo built her name on a song that practically went everywhere. Her track "Kalemba (Wegue Wegue)", which she wrote and recorded herself, racked up over ten million views on YouTube and landed on the soundtracks of both Need for Speed: Shift and FIFA 10. She had cut her teeth performing with the kuduro crew Denon Squad and then joined Buraka Som Sistema, sharing a stage with them for the first time in 2008 at Lisbon's Music Box. After a falling out over royalties, she stepped back from music for a while, taking on cleaning work to support her sisters, until hearing her own song on the radio pulled her back in. Her comeback clicked into gear with the 2018 EP "Baia", followed by "Uwa" in 2020, the title a Kimbundu word meaning "step". That same year she won the Music Moves Europe Talent Award. A performance at the Élysée Palace during the French Fête de la musique, hosted by Emmanuel Macron, earned her the title "Diva of Kuduro", a label that fits the Angolan Portuguese artist rather well.
