Portrayal of Guilt pull from the grimier corners of screamo and black metal, blending the rawness of Pg. 99 and City of Caterpillar with a bleakness that earned them the tag "blackened screamo." The Austin trio built their reputation the hard way, grinding through extensive US and Europe tours before dropping their debut full length Let Pain Be Your Guide in 2018. That record featured guest vocals from Dylan Walker of Full of Hell, contributions from Majority Rule's Matt Michel, and artwork by Pg. 99's Chris Taylor, which gives you a pretty clear picture of the scene they run in. Their second album, We Are Always Alone, came out in early 2021 on Closed Casket Activities, recorded with producer Phillip Odom and mastered by Will Yip. Nine tracks deep, it showed a band pushing further into desolate territory without losing the serrated edge that got them noticed. A Washington Post feature in 2019 grouped them alongside Vein and Infant Island as acts breathing new energy into screamo, and that's still a fair read.
