Ratboys

About

Ratboys have spent over a decade quietly building one of the more compelling catalogs in indie rock, starting out in South Bend before planting their flag in Chicago. The core of the band is vocalist and rhythm guitarist Julia Steiner and lead guitarist Dave Sagan, joined by drummer Marcus Nuccio and bassist Sean Neumann. Their second album GN caught the attention of NPR, MTV, and Rolling Stone, who called it one of the best albums of 2017 most people missed. Printer's Devil in 2020 pushed them further, with MTV calling it the best album of their career, and The Window in 2023, recorded in Seattle with producer Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie, was hailed by the Chicago Tribune as the most confident version of their sound yet. After spending much of 2024 on the road supporting The Decemberists, Ratboys signed to New West Records in 2025 and released their sixth album, Singin' to an Empty Chair, in early 2026. Recent music videos for tracks like "Anywhere", "What's Right?" and "Penny in the Lake" suggest the new era suits them well.
