About
Republica built their reputation on a sound they called "technopop punk rock", a bristling mix of electronic textures and guitar noise that set them apart from most of the Britpop pack in the mid to late 1990s. Their debut album reached No. 4 in the UK, driven by the relentless "Ready to Go" and the No. 7 hit "Drop Dead Gorgeous". Vocalist Saffron also lent her voice to the Prodigy track "Fuel My Fire" on The Fat of the Land, and later worked with the Cure and Junkie XL. After a hiatus and a reunion in 2008, the band has kept releasing new music in fits and starts, with a deluxe edition of their debut dropping in 2020. More recently they put out the singles "New York" and "Hallelujah", both drawn from a long awaited album called Damaged Gods. Saffron is now the sole original member, with former Placebo drummer Steve Hewitt on board for live shows.
