About
Richie Malone stepped into one of rock's toughest gigs when Status Quo needed someone to fill the rhythm guitar spot left by the legendary Rick Parfitt. It wasn't a random call: Malone had been a devoted Quo fan since childhood, knew Parfitt's playing inside out, and had even commissioned a replica of Parfitt's iconic white 1965 Fender Telecaster. When Parfitt suffered a heart attack mid tour in June 2016, Malone was the natural choice to step in, and after Parfitt's death in December that year, he became a permanent member of the band. Before joining Quo, Malone fronted the Dublin rock outfit RAID and built his chops on Telecasters, which remain central to his live setup. He tours with three of them, including his own custom built AC Cobra and that beloved Parfitt replica, which he has reportedly played at every gig since he was 21. Away from the stage, he works as a project engineer, which makes him one of rock's more quietly practical rhythm guitarists.
