Few bands have left a mark on British rock quite like Status Quo. Formed in London in 1962, they hold the record for the most chart hits of any band in the UK, with over 60 entries, 22 of which broke the Top 10. Their run includes some of the most instantly recognisable rock tracks ever, from "Pictures of Matchstick Men" to "Down Down", "Caroline", "Rockin' All Over the World" and "Whatever You Want". They have released more than 33 studio albums and reportedly shifted over 118 million records worldwide. Their signature sound, built around hard driving boogie rock with simple chord progressions and a freight train rhythm section, became a genre of its own and earned them an almost mythic status in the UK. Opening Live Aid at Wembley Stadium in 1985 with "Rockin' All Over the World" remains one of their defining moments. They received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music in 1991, and appeared on Top of the Pops more than any other act in the show's history.
